Skyrocketing private tech valuations are the norm these days, causing us to wonder how the pace of growth of today’s high-fliers compares to high-fliers of the recent past.
The Information crunched data supplied by PitchBook to identify private VC-backed companies whose valuations have climbed the fastest between financings since 2011.
PitchBook gave us a list of private companies whose valuations had more than doubled during a six-month period since 2011. For companies that had multiple rounds that met the criteria, we picked the most recent and divided the percentage valuation growth by the number of days between the rounds to get an average valuation appreciation per day.
This isn’t a compounding rate, keep in mind; it’s just a straight average per day over those periods that we calculated for historical comparison.
