Lessons From Silicon Valley’s Latest Female VC Partners

Eight of the biggest venture capital firms, including Benchmark Capital, Union Square Ventures and General Catalyst, named their first female partners in the past 16 months. Those hires helped slightly increase women’s representation in the upper ranks of venture capital, as The Information reported Monday.

Today, we are profiling the new female partners these firms hired, demonstrating the mix of experience they bring to the jobs. As is the case with many men in venture capital, the women include a founder (Hayley Barna from Birchbox), while several others have operational experience at companies (Catherine Ulrich at Shutterstock and Weight Watchers; Cack Wilhelm at Oracle and Cloudera; and Beth Ferreira at Etsy). A few have previous experience in venture capital. The group includes Naomi Pilosof Ionita at Menlo Ventures, which has previously had a female partner.
