John Malone’s CBS Play and Other Deals to Watch

TV deal-making rumors have run high in the past month, as big media companies continue to brace for more change and bankers get antsy.

One unreported idea that media investors have been buzzing about: Liberty Media chairman John Malone could buy control of CBS and build a diversified entertainment conglomerate on a par with Walt Disney or 21st Century Fox.

The trigger for a deal could be Viacom, which like CBS, is controlled by Mr. Redstone and so could up for grabs in the near future. An alternative much talked about is the possibility of CBS and Viacom reuniting—the two were one company in the first half of the 2000s—although there’s little sign of any move to make that happen.
