Investors have plowed tens of billions of dollars into ride-hailing and scooter services that mostly cater to people taking trips shorter than 10 miles. Yet the frenzy hasn’t changed the way most Americans get to work: driving in cars, alone, for longer stretches.
Scoop, founded in San Francisco in 2015, hopes to change that, by growing its carpooling service that connects drivers already headed to work with neighbors or co-workers. The company recently expanded outside the West Coast for the first time this year, and has been discussing with investors an additional round of venture capital to finance growth.
