Welcome to the China Startup Report, a snapshot of the biggest venture capital and private equity-backed tech fundings in the world’s largest internet market.
For all the investment money going into tech companies in China—some $40 billion and counting this quarter, including IPOs and acquisitions—information about funding rounds is surprisingly sparse and sometimes inaccurate. So The Information collaborated with the Financial Times’s Chinese language edition to publish this report. It lists the top 20 funding rounds by size for the first half of 2017, along with descriptions about the investors and other important facts about the companies. (Acquisitions and initial public offerings are excluded from this list. Figures are in dollars or dollar equivalents.)
We gathered data from venture capital data provider InnoTREE, which uses artificial intelligence to search Chinese websites, and verified it by calling investors, companies and banks. We believe this is one of the most comprehensive reports about the China startup market to date.
