Subscribers Turn Less Sour on Economy, Tech

Subscriber optimism about the economy and the tech industry rebounded from the post-election lows reached in November, our latest survey showed. But subscribers remained noticeably more downbeat than they were for much of this year.

That held true for subscriber predictions for next year as well. Subscribers foresee tougher times for companies like Facebook as well as troubles for self-driving car technology in 2017, our survey found.

Attitudes to Microsoft improved, lifting its sentiment score to 65%, its highest in the history of the subscriber survey. The score is even higher than Amazon’s 59%. Amazon’s sentiment score has been consistently at around that level for more than a year. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been getting a lot of positive media coverage for revitalizing the software giant.
