DESCRIPTION:We often get asked how we put together The Information 50\, our
annual list of the 50 most promising early-stage startups. Join our repor
ters\, Executive Editor Amir Efrati and Senior Editor Scott Thurm as they
take you inside the reporting process and share some of the conclusions an
d insights they gathered from this year’s cohort.\n\nThe third edition o
f The Information’s 50 most promising startups looked for the next big w
inners in artificial intelligence and enterprise software\, social apps\,
 commerce\, media\, security\, cryptocurrency\, and financial software. Our
reporters selected startups they believed had the potential to be the mos
t valuable businesses in their categories based on their revenue\, busines
s model and growth prospects. We only included companies that had raised l
ess than $100 million or were less than two years old\, and we excluded fi
rms that had a valuation of $1 billion or higher.
