Competing with Facebook in today’s consumer AR/VR market is seemingly too daunting for the likes of HTC, Magic Leap and Microsoft. But not so for French startup Lynx, which has decided to take on Facebook with a headset aimed at consumers and businesses.
The firm, which has raised a grand total of $2.3 million so far from French angel investors, revealed new plans last week which reflect a pivot from what it announced early last year. Then, Lynx said it planned to release the R-1 mixed reality headset priced at $1,500, aimed squarely at the enterprise market. Instead, Lynx has done a minor redesign that has brought down the cost to below $1,000 and plans to sell the R-1 to consumers as well.
