Amazon Memo Lists Trump Dos and Don’ts

President Donald Trump has attacked Amazon or its CEO Jeff Bezos on Twitter almost two dozen times over the past three years, often inaccurately accusing Amazon of using the Washington Post, which Mr. Bezos personally owns, as a lobbying arm. Invariably, Amazon’s official response to the attacks: crickets.

It turns out Amazon has a detailed set of talking points for its public policy team to prepare them in the event the controversial subject of Mr. Trump comes up, according to a copy of an internal memo obtained by The Information. The memo, the contents of which haven’t previously been reported, advises Amazon employees to “be friendly and polite” to people who bring up Mr. Trump and “explain that the president is misinformed about our partnership with the post office and on tax issues.” It also recommends a trusty old technique for getting out of sticky conversations: “Pivot as quickly as possible.”
