Shortly after Alphabet’s self-driving car unit Waymo filed a lawsuit in late February alleging Uber stole its trade secrets, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick told employees in a weekly, companywide staff meeting that “we looked at everything” and determined the company did nothing wrong, said two people who heard the remarks.
Later, at an executive staff meeting, Uber general counsel Salle Yoo told Mr. Kalanick his comments were wrong and irresponsible because Uber had “not done what you said we did,” in terms of ferreting out all the facts, said people with knowledge of the exchange. Mr. Kalanick, who attended the meeting remotely via video, moved on to other topics. (Uber declined to comment.)
