About Us

The Information is a San Francisco-based business publication known for original, in-depth reporting about the technology industry. We’re the go-to daily read for the most important people in technology and business and are building a one-of-a kind community of subscribers. We have a sustainable business, plenty of capital and big ambitions to grow our business and team in 2016.

Job Description

Our Director of Engineering will lead and grow our engineering team and work closely with our CEO to develop next-gen ways to present and distribute high-quality information. Our product goes far beyond traditional news tools.

As our Engineering Director, you will be responsible for developing a strategy for launching new or improved versions of our product to a highly engaged global audience of technology leaders. You will have the freedom to work on projects that excite you and work alongside a dedicated team rather than working strictly on a straight production cycle for feature and product releases. This role is a blend of committing your own code to our Git repos and project management, so organizational skills are a must.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to reach defined engineering goals and deadlines
  • Manage project deadlines and bi-weekly sprint planning
  • Create weekly engineering progress reports
  • Jump onto projects spanning our network of microservices to make contributions to the codebase directly
  • Define and measure metrics used to track product quality and performance
  • Anticipate potential bottlenecks as our application scales and keep application environments current and performant

Requirements

  • Our tech stack consists of Ruby on Rails, Postgres, Redis, Git, JavaScript/jQuery, HTML and CSS. Candidates should be familiar with or willing to learn these technologies.
  • 2 - 5 years experience in an engineering environment.
  • Have experience leading a team of engineers and keeping projects on track.
  • Have a Github that you are proud of. Side projects are completely fine too!
  • Specializations are welcome and encouraged. We want you to be building the things you’re excited about.
  • Experience with using Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment services and workflows (CodeShip, Jenkins, TravisCI)

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, performance bonuses and vacation days.
  • Experienced and talented colleagues.
  • Tech-savvy newsroom.
  • Fun office culture.
  • Incredible view of 4 local landmarks, and sweeping view of the downtown FiDi skyline.
  • You will be part of a creative team building the highest caliber, must-read stories about the technology market.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter and resume to [email protected].

We'd love to hear from you.
