Today we learned of a cryptocurrency startup that aims to put a new twist on distributing payments. Worldcoin uses biometric data from a person’s eyes to help people receive cryptocurrency payments through a blockchain-style network, according to a Bloomberg report.
The company has developed a basketball-shaped device that can detect the distinct pattern of a person’s iris, which is then used to generate a unique identifier that would allow them to receive payments in the form of a Worldcoin cryptocurrency. How Worldcoin would distribute such a device and then convince people to submit to a scan remains unclear.
