DeepMind may be coming to Google’s cloud service.
The highly regarded artificial intelligence startup has operated as its own unit within Alphabet since it was acquired in 2014, helping improve Google services like Google Assistant but not generating much revenue on its own. But recently, executives from Google Cloud and DeepMind have explored ways of working together to provide services for corporate customers, according to two people briefed on the discussions.
If it proceeds, such an effort could help Google Cloud become more competitive in the public cloud market. Google Cloud chief Diane Greene has said publicly that she believes AI-powered services will help the company overtake market leader Amazon Web Services by 2022.
