It has been nearly nine months since Google hired veteran Silicon Valley executive Diane Greene to run its cloud business. Aside from a few customer wins, the announcement of new cloud data centers, and the introduction of new machine learning tools for developers, this time has passed without much fanfare.
But behind the scenes, Ms. Greene has been building her cloud team by attracting talent from VMware, the company she co-founded, and from Amazon Web Services, the company she’s trying to catch in cloud computing. These hires—many of whom are listed below—could help Ms. Greene improve Google’s ability to attract corporate customers, form business partnerships with third-party firms and provide a return on the investment it made when it acquired her cloud startup Bebop Technologies last November.
