At a certain point, many creators want to do more than earn money from videos and sponsored posts: They want to own businesses that don’t rely on their daily uploads. Few get to this point, given the financing and know-how needed to run a standalone operation like a restaurant. But YouTuber Zik Asiegbu and startup Popchew are trying a third way.
Asiegbu, whose YouTube channel Zias has 4.6 million followers, will launch a chain of 60 delivery-only restaurant kitchens called Wing SZN in partnership with Popchew, a startup founded earlier this year. The first deliveries are slated for Friday in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami.
The venture, which hasn’t previously been reported, is the biggest launch for Popchew, which partners with creators to establish restaurant-meal brands that can be ordered and delivered through an app.
