Microsoft is hoping a new cloud-services software product aimed at customers running their own data centers will help it gain ground on leading cloud provider Amazon Web Services, a senior Microsoft cloud executive said on Wednesday.
Julia White, corporate vice president of Microsoft Azure, said at The Information’s hybrid cloud and AI event in Seattle on Wednesday that the software, called Azure Stack, offered a competitive advantage over Microsoft’s public cloud rivals. The software, introduced last September, allows customers running their own data centers to get some of the functions of Microsoft’s public cloud Azure. It’s known as a “hybrid cloud” product.
