Maybe we were too quick to write off QVC. In the last few years, a handful of live-shopping startups and social media apps have offered live-streamed shopping, all versions of QVC’s shopping channel but tailored for smartphone users. As it turns out, the 36-year-old unit of media conglomerate Qurate Retail still is a draw—even with influencers who have made their mark on social media.
Dani Austin, a creator who started posting videos on YouTube 10 years ago, is taking her social media audience to their television screens by posting livestreams on QVC. The shopping channel’s online shop is “actually one of my top sellers when I post sales and deals,” Austin said in an interview with The Information. “QVC has always really resonated with my audience.”
