Startup valuations aren’t the only thing going through the roof. Tech investors’ already supersized venture funds have recently gotten a lot, lot bigger.
U.S. VC firms have raised $74 billion so far this year, nearly topping last year’s record of $81 billion. At the current pace, the total raised will clear $100 billion for the first time this year, according to PitchBook’s estimate. That’s nearly the total raised in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 combined.
Leading the pack for the fastest-growing private tech investment firms are SoftBank and Insight Partners, according to The Information’s reporting and data provided by PitchBook. The ranking, which also includes Coatue Management, Sequoia Capital, Accel, and Lightspeed Venture Partners, is based on the amount of capital for private investments that firms have raised since the beginning of 2018.
