The panelists—Founders Fund partner and Chief Operating Officer Lauren Gross, Social Capital founder Chamath Palihapitiya and Y Combinator’s Ali Rowghani—said they aimed to upend traditional thinking and structures in venture capital and fund a wider variety of technology companies that often get ignored by Silicon Valley’s old guard. They said they are staffing their firms with people who don’t fit the cookie-cutter mold of what an investor ought to be as they aim to encourage new ways of thinking and help the firms break away from the industry’s pack mentality.
