While Justin Overdorff was at payments company Stripe, he helped it become a prolific VC investor, spearheaded its partnerships with companies including Amazon and developed its lending business. This spring, he joined Lightspeed Venture Partners as a fintech partner, the first time the venture firm has hired someone to specialize exclusively in that sector.
Overdorff is focusing on investing in companies that, similar to $95 billion–valuation Stripe, enable other businesses to conduct online financial transactions. The move shows how VC firms are adapting to founders who want to work with investors that have experience in their industries. He will also oversee the opening of a Lightspeed office in New York. His hire hasn’t previously been reported.
