Our latest chart shows that venture capitalists are enthused about investing in companies that are straddling two in-the-moment sectors: creators and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), the unique digital assets based on the blockchain. Our analysis of The Information’s Creator Economy database shows that venture firms have invested $250 million in startups targeting creators with NFTs this year.
These digital assets burst into the mainstream early this year as a way to own a limited edition of a photo or video clip, piece of art, or Internet moment, such as a basketball highlight or a first tweet. The market has since exploded as consumers bet certain NFTs would rise in value. VC investors pumped $662 million into startups engaged with NFTs this year, according to PitchBook.
