A wave of startups developing artificial intelligence chips are poised to stir up the market long dominated by Nvidia Corp. The new companies, which are entering an industry hungry for more computing power and technical specialization, together have attracted hundreds of millions of dollars in funding.
The Information looked at a dozen emerging chip designers, some of which are close to bringing products to market (see below), to see which might eventually challenge Nvidia in the fast-evolving sector. Among the companies profiled are Cambricon, Cerebras Systems, Mythic and Wave Computing.
