In the last few years the Republicans have emerged as the company's closest allies in DC, while the Democrats have ramped up their harsh rhetoric against it. It's partly an ideological divide, as some Republicans have embraced the mindset that they should have a hands-off approach to big businesses, but there's also an element self-interest for the party and its campaigning. We also discussed what the Democratic presidential candidates have been signaling about how they'd approach the company and tech overall.
Then Kevin dropped in to talk about Ginni Rometty, the outgoing CEO of IBM. He recapped her accomplishments, which included reframing the business around cloud computing and data analytics. But her record is mixed on the business overall, including almost six straight years of declining revenue.
