TikTok has long been cloudy about how the money in its $1 billion Creator Fund, announced July 2020, is distributed. Some creators have told us they generate meager earnings through the fund, despite accumulating millions of views on the app.
In recent days, they’ve used their social media megaphones to draw attention to their disappointment. Vlogger Hank Green, who has 6.3 million followers on TikTok, on Thursday published a video titled, “So… TikTok sucks.” His beef: the low payout, which he said came out to about 2.5 cents per 1,000 views, from the TikTok creator fund. That was peanuts, he said, compared to earnings from YouTube’s ad revenue share.
