What’s an easy way to show you’re committed to young people’s well-being—without doing much to change what makes an app addictive? More screen time reminders!
TikTok on Thursday announced new screen time controls, joining other social apps and smartphone makers that have instituted similar features in recent years. The ByteDance-owned company said in the coming weeks it will add a new feature so people can turn on reminders to take a break if they go over a pre-set limit on using TikTok in a single session, not just for the entire day, as it does now. It’s also adding weekly prompts for users ages 13 to 17 if they use the short-form video app for more than 100 minutes in a single day.
