Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, who quit as CEO on Tuesday, has told at least one person close to Uber’s board that he is planning to be directly involved in the search for his replacement. His prerequisites for the job, not surprisingly, resemble an executive in Mr. Kalanick’s own image. That could complicate the board’s CEO search.

UPDATE: Mr. Kalanick is a member of the Uber board subcommittee in charge of the new CEO search, according to a memo emailed by the board to employees Thursday.  (Read the memo here.) Also on the subcommittee are Benchmark’s Matt Cohler, Arianna Huffington and TPG’s David Trujillo. The subcommittee is working with search firm Heidrick and Struggles, which already was running Uber’s search for a COO, said a person familiar with the situation.

Mr. Kalanick’s criteria for the CEO are a leader who is a “builder” with experience at a global operations company, and with a tech industry background to boot, he told the person. That description sounds a lot like Mr. Kalanick himself and would seem to rule out executives in the airline, auto or traditional media industries, for instance.
