TikTok’s viral short videos put Canadian creator Josh Richards on the map in 2019, after his dance moves and generation-defining hairstyle made him a Gen Z icon. Now also an entrepreneur and investor, Richards says he sees another video format poised to triumph: livestreaming.
“I see Twitch absolutely dominating,” Richards, 20, said about the Amazon-owned livestreaming service in an interview at The Information’s Creator Economy Summit on Wednesday. So many creators are making careers out of it, he said, that “this summer we’re gonna see a lot more people going into that livestreaming area.”
That switch, in turn, will push Instagram, YouTube and TikTok to put more of a focus on streaming than they have in the past, he predicted.
