Two senior executives at Lyft, in charge of strategic initiatives and design, are leaving the ride-hailing firm, The Information has learned. News of their departures, which follow the exits of three other senior executives in the past few months, came on the eve of the vote on Proposition 22, arguably the most important moment in the company’s history.
The California ballot initiative is aimed at overriding a state law that requires drivers for Lyft, Uber and other gig economy companies to be treated as employees rather than independent contractors. Defeat of the initiative could financially crush Lyft. While the departures, which were announced internally toward the end of last week, appear to be due to personal circumstances, their exits add to the uncertainty of this time for the company.
