IBM Shows Off AI That Can Argue With People

IBM, which has been developing artificial intelligence since the 1950s, gave CES attendees a glimpse of AI software it is developing which could someday engage in debates with humans, according to this report from The Next Web. For IBM, this is a reminder to the tech industry that its deep expertise in AI is just as interesting and relevant as the projects companies like Google and Microsoft are hatching in their research labs.

This could also help IBM get the generate the kind of buzz that Alphabet’s DeepMind AI unit gets from building AI that beat the world’s best players of the ancient board game Go. On another level, IBM is showing that AI, when harnessed in a way that promotes critical thinking, can have a beneficial impact on society.
