AI Startup Backers Focusing on Ethics

VC backers of AI startups are pushing founders to develop a code of ethics, along with technical tools, to ensure that their algorithms aren’t being used in ways that are harmful to society, The Wall Street Journal reported. This shows how investors are paying more attention to the negative potential of AI, in which biases in data used to train algorithms can end up perpetuating racial and gender discrimination.

In the race to commercialize AI software, these types of discussions are taking on greater importance, as they can help startups avoid making mistakes that could jeopardize their futures. While some AI startups have already developed ethical guidelines for their tech, that others have not is a reminder that AI is still in an early stage of its development.
