Amazon is working on a wearable device that incorporates its smart assistant Alexa and can understand human emotions based on the sound of the user’s voice, Bloomberg reported.
The device is being beta tested, according to Bloomberg, which said it is unclear how advanced the effort is or if it will ever be released. It could be used for potential health applications or to recommend health-related products to people.
Amazon’s efforts to create such a device show that it has not been deterred by the recent onslaught of questions from lawmakers and news media about how much data tech companies gather about users. It also shows how broadly Amazon is thinking about potential applications for Alexa, which is still mostly used to play music and podcasts and learn about the weather or what time it is.
