Facebook Services Down for Many Users

Facebook services, including Facebook, Messenger and Instagram, were down for many users around the world on Wednesday. Oculus also posted on Twitter that it was aware some of its users were having issues using their devices. WhatsApp wasn’t widely reported as being affected, though some people have noted on Twitter that they were having issues. It isn’t clear yet why the services went down, but Facebook said on Twitter that it wasn’t the result of a DDoS attack and that it is “working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.” The significance behind the outage will become more apparent when we know more about why it occurred and if there are technical challenges with Facebook that need to be fixed, but in the meantime it’s a reminder for many of how tied into the companies services they still are.
