Microsoft Touts Azure Growth, but Outage Takes Down Services

Part of the reason for Microsoft’s turnaround under CEO Satya Nadella is that the company isn’t competing with customers that run on its Azure cloud, according to this report from Bloomberg. This shows how Microsoft is trying to capitalize on growing anti-Amazon sentiment among retailers like Walmart and Kroger to attract more cloud business.

But aside from retailers, so far there is little evidence that companies in other industries that compete with Amazon are shunning business opportunities with its cloud unit, Amazon Web Services. That raises the question of how much mileage Microsoft can get out of this strategy, a variation of which Google Cloud is also using.
