U.S. Tech, Business Executives Harassed in China Amid Trade War

U.S. technology and other business executives are increasingly worried about being harassed by Chinese authorities amid the trade war between China and the U.S., the New York Times reported.

The newspaper said some U.S. business executives and former U.S. officials have been held for questioning and prevented from leaving the country. In one example, a U.S. diplomat attended an artificial intelligence forum in Beijing and was asked to go with Chinese security officers for questioning, the newspaper reported, adding that the officers relented after U.S. embassy officials intervened.

The friction between China and the U.S. threatens to disrupt technology investment between the two countries, and it could cause a greater chill in business relations if U.S. technology executives begin to second guess their trips to China.
