Oracle President Thomas Kurian Resigns After 22 Years

Thomas Kurian, Oracle’s president of product development and a 22-year company veteran, has resigned “to pursue other opportunities,” Oracle said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The news comes three weeks after Oracle announced that Mr. Kurian, the executive in charge of shifting Oracle’s traditional software business to the cloud, would be taking a “leave of absence” but was expected to return.

Mr. Kurian reportedly wanted Oracle to sell more of its applications through competing cloud providers, a stance that caused friction with Oracle founder and CTO Larry Ellison. That may be the case, but it seems likely that there is much more to this story.
