Google’s Gmail Upgrades Signal Increasing Focus on Cloud Productivity Apps

Google’s update this week to Gmail, which adds a number of business-focused features, appears to be part of its strategy to knock Microsoft off its perch atop the cloud productivity applications market, according to a report from The Verge. In addition to the Gmail upgrade, Google Cloud is preparing voice and video conferencing upgrades for G Suite, as well as a reconfigured version of its online education software for businesses, as we have reported previously. Taken together, the push to make G Suite more enterprise-friendly shows the influence Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene is having on the unit.
