Facebook said Monday in a blog post that it has suspended around 200 applications as it investigates possible misuse of user data. It said it has now investigated “thousands of apps” as part of its review of every app with access to Facebook data. While it’s commendable that Facebook is finally taking steps to address this issue, it’s important to note that user data that has already been extracted will not be clawed back. Any nefarious apps would be prevented from accessing new user data going forward, however. The investigation isn’t over yet, which means that there could be a much larger group of apps ultimately suspended or banned entirely.
