It appears Airbnb had a productive board meeting Thursday. Ann Mather, a former Pixar CFO who now serves on the boards of Alphabet and Netflix, was named Airbnb’s first female board member, the company announced. She will help fill out a board that until earlier this year lacked independent members. (Former American Express CEO Ken Chenault joined the board in January.) The company may add another independent board member this year.
Airbnb has been shooting to file an IPO by 2020. It still needs to hire a chief financial officer. In the meantime, Ms. Mather, who chairs the audit committees on the boards of Alphabet and Netflix, helps bring financial chops to the top of the company. In addition to Ms. Mather and Mr. Chenault, Airbnb’s board members voting power include the company’s three cofounders—Mr. Chesky, Nathan Blecharcyzk and Joe Gebbia—and Sequoia Capital’s Alfred Lin and Andreessen Horowitz’ Jeff Jordan.
