Researchers Find Vulnerabilities in AMD Chips

Security researchers revealed multiple security vulnerabilities in AMD chips. The flaws are hard to exploit, requiring administrative access in order to use them, but are concerning because they could compromise Ryzen and EPYC processors where very sensitive data is stored. The vulnerabilities are labelled as severe and put further pressure on the chip companies to step up security following the Intel chip vulnerabilities earlier this year. However, the timing of the disclosure does raise some red flags. AMD was only given 24 hours to respond to the vulnerabilities (Intel was given 6 months for its previously disclosed flaws), and the researchers who discovered it did not explicitly deny they had any economic interest in the disclosures.
