Netflix, Amazon and other streaming services can do a better job of recommending shows for subscribers to watch, if Nielsen’s latest audience report is any guide. The study found that only about two thirds of adults knew exactly what they wanted to watch when they tune in. And when they don’t know for sure, about a fifth of them give up and do something else entirely.
Moreover, people take an average of 7.4 minutes to make a decision—although the time it takes goes down the older you are, Nielsen’s study said. It found younger people have a harder time making a decision. It seems the AI behind these recommendation engines could use a little more intelligence.
