Microsoft Has 13 Million Teams Users, Challenging Slack

Microsoft says more than 13 million people are using its Teams workplace instant messaging service each day, which is more than the 10 million daily active users Slack reported back in April, The Verge reported.

Slack declined to update its user figures for The Verge, so it’s not clear whether Microsoft is outpacing Slack right now.

On the one hand, it’s not surprising that Microsoft Teams is widely used: Microsoft bundles it with its Office 365 business software, while Slack is a standalone product that has to be downloaded and signed up for. On the other hand, Microsoft launched Teams just two years ago, and users appear to be flocking to it, a trend that could conceivably cause Slack some problems, or at least get its attention.
