Tesla’s board of directors investigated an altercation between CEO Elon Musk and an employee who quit in September, Bloomberg reported on Friday. The departing employee was confronted by a visibly angry Mr. Musk on his way out of the company’s Fremont delivery hub. The employee claimed Mr. Musk pushed him and prevented him from taking his personal belongings. The situation got heated and allegedly spilled into the parking lot, with Mr. Musk making a threat against the employee.
While word spread about the altercation to current and former Tesla employees, the company appeared to take steps to keep it from surfacing. When The Information inquired about the incident three weeks ago, and about the Tesla board’s investigation of the matter, a representative of Tesla’s board told us that “neither issue has been surfaced with the board yet.”
It’s no secret that Mr. Musk’s behavior can range from muted, to charming, to volatile and threatening. But this report may become one of those enduring incidents the tech and auto industries begins to associate with the brash entrepreneur, in addition to some of his problematic tweets.
