Salesforce Uses AI to Improve E-Commerce Software

Salesforce is adding artificial intelligence software to its cloud applications for retailers, including features such as product recommendations and the ability to search for items using images, according to this report from TechCrunch. It’s the first major AI upgrade for Salesforce’s e-commerce product line, which stems from its 2016 acquisition of Demandware for $2.8 billion.

This also shows how Salesforce—an active publisher of academic research papers—is pursuing a similar strategy as Microsoft and Google, both of which pitch AI as a way to improve existing products, as opposed to overhyping the technology. That’s a departure for Salesforce and another sign that it views AI research as a future pillar of the company.
