Mark Smith, executive vice president of global sales and business development at data management startup Rubrik, has left the company, according to multiple people familiar with the matter. A Rubrik spokesman confirmed his departure.
Rubrik, which sells software for backup and recovery of data stored in data centers and on cloud providers, is one of the highest-profile startups in the enterprise technology market. It has raised nearly $300 million and was valued at $1.3 billion after its $180 million Series D round in April 2017. Mr. Smith joined Rubrik in February 2017. The timing of his departure is curious, as the Rubrik spokesman said Mr. Smith recently presided over Rubrik’s “biggest bookings quarter ever.” Mike Tornincasa, Rubrik’s VP of sales for the Americas, is taking over Mr. Smith’s role on an interim basis, according to the spokesman.
