Samsung has finally announced its entry into the smart speaker race, the Galaxy Home, to work alongside the company’s voice assistant, Bixby. Samsung said the speaker will provide high-quality audio and include eight microphones to pick up voice commands. But given how far Bixby has lagged behind the likes of Amazon and Google, the Galaxy Home is unlikely to find much success.
Apple has struggled in the smart speaker market with the HomePod, in part because the speaker only works exclusively with Apple’s lackluster online services, Apple Music and voice assistant Siri. Siri was an early entry in the voice assistant market, but it has struggled to keep up with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant in performance and capabilities. Samsung’s Galaxy Home only has a shot if it somehow manages to substantially improve and differentiate Bixby from the competition. More details about the Galaxy Home will be released in November at Samsung’s developer conference.
