AI Glitch Renders Mueller Report Inaccessible on Scribd

Scribd, a website that sells subscriptions to digital books, magazines, and other content, has fixed an algorithm that mistakenly deleted multiple copies of the Mueller Report after identifying them as copyrighted works, Quartz reported. The glitch is the latest example of how AI-powered content analysis is still far from an exact science, and comes a few days after a YouTube algorithm recommended articles about the 9/11 attacks to users watching videos of the Notre Dame Cathedral fire in Paris.

The glitches are a reminder that while AI has great potential to make online services more useful, the technology is still developing and can’t be relied on to always make accurate decisions. They may also amplify the debate about whether AI-powered technologies like facial recognition are ready to be used by law enforcement agencies.
