Apple iCloud Outage Takes Down Multiple Services

Apple suffered an iCloud outage yesterday which rendered services such as mail, calendar, and data storage inaccessible for nearly three hours, reported The Verge. Since neither Amazon Web Services nor Google Cloud (the two third parties Apple relies on for certain computing services) reported an outage, it is likely that Apple’s own cloud systems were to blame.

The outage is a reminder that providing cloud services millions of users is an enormous technical challenge, one that even large companies sometimes struggle with. It also suggests that Apple, which has been reducing its reliance on cloud providers and moving more computing in-house, is still learning how to deal with the additional management overhead the move entails.
