Trump Administration to Probe Google’s Alleged Ties to China

President Donald Trump said his administration will look into allegations made by Palantir Technologies co-founders Peter Thiel and Joe Lonsdale over the weekend that Google is an unpatriotic company that has been infiltrated by the Chinese military.

Mr. Trump’s comments come after Mr. Thiel told the National Conservatism Conference that Google has “engaged in the seemingly treasonous decision to work with the Chinese military and not with the U.S. military.”

Mr. Trump cited Mr. Thiel as the basis for the investigation.  “He accuses Google of working with the Chinese Government,” tweeted Mr. Trump, adding “A great and brilliant guy who knows this subject better than anyone! The Trump administration will take a look.”

Mr. Lonsdale echoed Mr. Thiel’s comments in his own appearance on CNBC. “Peter and I built a very patriotic company. Google is clearly not a patriotic company.” Neither Mr. Thiel nor Mr. Lonsdale offered specific evidence that Google is working against U.S. interests.

“As we have said before, we do not work with the Chinese military,” Google said in a statement.
