WarnerMedia hired film executive Jessie Henderson to head up original films for its upcoming streaming service. Henderson was previously the co-president of Feigco, the production company started by comedy director Paul Feig. As that experience would suggest, her background is primarily in comedy films, executive-producing movies like the 2016 Ghostbusters remake and “Spy.”
Original films appear to be one of the major draws of WarnerMedia’s forthcoming streaming service, so the projects she works on will factor heavily into the service’s strategy. Interestingly, Netflix has been producing a good number of romantic comedies at a time when fewer of them get released into theaters. Although Henderson’s purview will include movies aimed at young adults and adults—and a variety of genres—it wouldn’t be surprising to see WarnerMedia focus on the kind of comedy films she’s known for.
