Walmart Promises to Match Amazon With One-Day Shipping

Less than a month after Amazon said it would shorten Prime free shipping time from two days to one, Walmart says it will match the offer, according to Bloomberg.

The Walmart effort will start small with just two cities, Phoenix and Las Vegas, for customers who spend at least $35. The company said the offer will apply to 220,000 items and that it hopes to extend one-day shipping to three-quarters of the U.S. by the end of the year.

Compare that to Amazon, which says it offers free same-day delivery to Prime members on more than 3 million items. Under the Prime two-day system, it offers free two-day shipping on more than 100 million items. Walmart’s one-day shipping promise comes without an upfront membership fee, unlike Prime, but for now at least applies to a much smaller selection of items.
